Addiction Real or Imagined?

How to Easily and Effortlessly Stop Smoking

Perhaps the biggest stumbling block to quitting smoking easily and effortlessly is the much misaligned viewpoint about addictions. What is addiction? Is addiction normal or abnormal? It all depends I suppose on what you are addicted.

In my hypnotherapy practice I encounter many smokers who tell me how addictive the smoking habit is and how impossible it is to give up. Yet amazingly after just one session 80% of these people have changed their minds and now believe stopping smoking is easy.

What has happened?

Well let’s first talk about “addiction”. Are cigarettes addictive? Is nicotine the most addictive substance known to man, more addictive than heroin or cocaine? Personally I’m not sure, here’s why.

Without doing any of your own personal research just how did you as a smoker come to this startling fact, who told you the addictive qualities of nicotine, where did you read this and more importantly why do you believe this?

Do you want nicotine to be addictive Yes or No? Because believing makes it so!

The media to a large degree are responsible for a lot of our beliefs and there is so much going on in the media on this topic that it’s difficult to establish the truth. When you stop to consider, in this equation we have the medical fraternity, the scientific community, the anti-tobacco lobbyists, tobacco companies, the general public, and of course, Yes, the media.

All of these respective groups have their own agenda, perspectives and opinions on the subject and nature of nicotine addiction. I wonder as you must do just how many of these groups actually contacted you personally on this topic? Probably NONE! Yet the vast majority of smokers are handicapping their natural ability to stop smoking easily and effortlessly by harbouring this faulty impersonal belief that it is difficult to stop smoking because of the perceived addictive qualities of nicotine.

Smokers tell me about the withdrawals, the cravings, how they will “climb the walls in desperation” This is nonsense! A smoker has never seen someone climb a wall in their life, never mind done it themselves.

At the end of the day it all filters down to YOU!

Forget about how addictive nicotine is or isn’t, if you believe it is addictive it is and upon believing that it is not, it is NOT!!!

It’s Your Mind, it’s your BAD habit and your ability to quit depends ultimately on how you use your powerful subconscious mind. Forget about nicotine being addictive, disregard all the fad gimmicks available to help you quit, you didn’t need any of them to start smoking and believe me it is easier to quit smoking than it was to start. It is time to treat the stop smoking issue at source, Your Mind!!!

Ultimately it’s your mind, both conscious and subconscious that decides what’s addictive and what’s not. And here’s the Good News it’s easy to change your Mind, Easy to change bad habits.

Consider this, how many of you would be influenced if the media informed you that depression is normal that large dosages of powerful anti-depressants, to combat depression is also normal.

How many of us would believe this and rush out to get a prescription?

No doubt many of us would succumb, why?

Because many of our beliefs are perpetuated by what we see, hear, and read in the media and our ability to discern what applies to us as individuals and what is legitimate and what is not.

So then, it doesn’t matter if nicotine is addictive or not, what does matter is whether you think it is or not!

It’s the exact same with any other habit you may have.

It was Shakespeare who said “Thinking makes it so”

Now this is where it gets really exciting because we want to help you eliminate the smoking habit easily and effortlessly and any other addiction you may have, real or imagined, whether it was generated by the media or your own belief system, it really doesn’t matter. What is NLP?

I recently wrote about the fact that I don’t (Oops) like the way NLP says we can’t process a negative.
Well, whether some of us can or can’t here is some more useful info on NLP.
Neuro is about your neurological system. NLP is based on the idea that we experience the world through our senses and translate sensory information into thought processes, both conscious and unconscious. Thought processes activate the neurological system, which affects physiology, emotions and behaviour.
Linguistic refers to the way human beings use language to make sense of the world, capture and conceptualise experience, and communicate that experience to others. In NLP, linguistics is the study of how the words you speak influence your experience.
Programming addresses how we code or mentally represent experience. Your personal programming consists of your internal processes and strategies (thinking patterns) that you use to make decisions, solve problems, learn, evaluate and get results. NLP shows people how to recode their experiences and organise their internal programming and states so they can be in control of their minds by means of changing their perceptions. When we change our internal maps of reality, we change our external experience of reality too.
Some definitions
NLP is often described in various ways. The formal definition is that it is ‘the study of the structure of our subjective experience.’
Here are a few more ways of answering the question:

‘What is NLP?’
• The art and science of communication
• A complicated version of Hypnosis
• Gestalt theory?
• How to get better in all areas of your life
• Influencing and persuading others
• An owners manual for the brain

NLP began in the early 1970’s when Richard Bandler, PhD and Dr John Grinder, PhD, studied people, they considered, to be excellent communicators and change experts.
The literature on NLP is prolific, today you can find NLP applications amongst coaches, therapists, doctors, nurses, sales people, managers, teachers, parents and teenagers alike.
NLP says the difference between successful and unsuccessful people is not how many resources they have, but in the way they think, the way they talk and the way they behave. The way you think, your thoughts, is what you create inside. The way you talk and act is what you express outside.

If you want to be successful, you must start to think and align your thoughts, speech and actions and apply the following basic principles:
1. KNOW YOUR OUTCOME
What is your Goal, the end result? Focus on what you want, however during the process you must detach from the end result.

2. TAKE ACTION
This is the Key to all success, TAKE ACTION, However small, TAKE ACTION!!! Every little step leads you along the way.

3. HAVE SENSORY AWARENESS
Become mindful of the senses, Ask Not, “What do I see” but rather, “What do I observe”. Not, “What do I hear” but, “What am I listening to”.
Use all your senses, remember you do have FIVE, and begin to notice the signs which tell you, you are on course or off!!

4. BEHAVIOURAL FLEXIBILITY
Adopt new approaches all the time until you reach your goal.

By studying Self Hypnosis or NLP you will be able to:

Enjoy greater control, freedom over your state of mind, responses, and interactions with others.
You’ll find it much easier to clarify your dreams, enabling you to identify blockages that may be holding you back.
Change unwanted, detrimental habits, like smoking, drinking alcohol excessively, overeating etc.
Enhance rapport and communication with others, allowing you greater understanding of what makes the other person tick, because if you know that, then, you’re on your way.
Recognize instantly when others are using Hypnosis, NLP to influence you, and be able to counteract if necessary.
You’ll find it so easy to achieve all of your goals, because you’ll have greater confidence and belief in yourself and access to your internal states.
Please remember I am a Fan of NLP, I just don’t (Oops again) accept everything they say. I apply my own thinking and this is what some of you should do too. Thinking makes everything so, (an article coming soon on thinking)
As always my Friends, do everything to the best of your natural ability, with good cheer and a Glad Heart.

Let’s Have Fun whilst Exercising!

Nothing beats waking up in the morning with the thought of going to the gym to lift weights or jog on the treadmill.
However, sometimes, just trying to get and stay motivated to exercise on a regular basis can be a challenge.
So, you may be wondering just how you can get the motivation you need to exercise on a regular basis.
I firmly believe that you have to incorporate fun into everything you do, exercise included!!
If you’ve been wondering what you can do to make exercise more fun, well read on and you’ll find some ideas below, that just may help to make exercise more fun and a little bit easier.
First things first, you should exercise with a friend, you can challenge each other, help each other out, keep each other motivated and on track, make each other laugh or just make a game out of your exercise programs.
You can also try something different. If you go to the gym each and every day and use the same piece of equipment or use the same piece of equipment at home, you should try mixing things up.
Reverse your routine or just change the order of your exercises.
You don’t always need to follow a strict routine, just get out there and have fun working your muscles.
You can also ride a bike around your neighbourhood or hike on a hiking trail. A walk in the park or around your neighbourhood is also a great way to get some exercise.
Doing yoga in the park or on a beach is also a nice and relaxing way to exercise both your body and your mind.
Playing a competitive sport is also something you can consider, a lot of cities have team activities such as softball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, action cricket, bowls and so on.
These types of activities will not only provide you with good exercise but they will also help you to meet new people as well.
When you exercise, imagine your muscles getting bigger, or your stomach getting smaller, it’s called visualisation and more of that coming soon.
Research has shown that if you focus all of your thoughts on the muscles that you are working, they will respond better, this is truly amazing, Go on give it a go!!
Watch them work with each repetition as your muscles contract and relax.
As you can tell, there are plenty of ways you can make exercise more fun and interesting.
You don’t need to follow the same routine day after day, as you can do many other things to get in some exercise.
The important thing is that you should always incorporate exercise, in any shape or form, into your everyday life and make these habits the kind of habits that will last a lifetime.

Weight Loss: Why Exercise Is Important

Are you interested in losing weight? If you are, you may be in the process of developing a weight loss plan for yourself.  For many individuals, a weight loss plan is a guide that they can follow and one that may help to give them motivation. If this is your first time developing a weight loss plan for yourself, it is important that you place a focus on exercise, as exercise is important component of weight loss.

Although it is nice to hear that exercise is an important part of a weight loss plan, you may be wondering exactly why that is. For your body to lose weight, you must see a reduction in your calorie intake. The amount of calories that you need to reduce, in order to lose weight, will all depend on your current weight and your hopeful weight loss goal.  Unfortunately, this is where many individuals automatically assume that they can’t eat three meals a day and many actually just stop eating. This is not only dangerous to your health, but it can be deadly.

Instead of reducing your calorie intake by solely limiting the amount of foods that you eat, you can use exercise to your advantage.  By exercising, you burn off calories. These are calories in which your body can use to help you lose weight.  If you have a specific weight loss goal, like one that involves losing at least twenty pounds, you may want to focus on fun exercises or workouts, but also ones that burn the most calories.  Adding exercise to your weight loss plan is a natural and a healthy way to lose weight.

Since it is important to incorporate to exercise into your weight loss plan, you may be wondering how you can go about doing so. In all honestly, there are an unlimited number of ways that you can go about using exercise to help you lose weight.  For starters, you can buy a collection, even just a small collection, of exercise equipment.  Exercise equipment can include items such as exercise balls, weights, a treadmill, a stair climber, and so forth. Even if you have limited financial resources, you should be able to find a number of exercise equipment pieces that are within your budget.

Although you should be able to find a number of exercise equipment pieces, including instructional workout DVDs, for affordable prices, you may be looking to limit your weight loss plan investments.  If that is the case, you may want to take the time to examine your local gyms or fitness clubs. While some fitness clubs and gyms have relatively high membership fees, you can also find a number of them with affordable membership rates.  It is also important to mention that many fitness clubs and gyms are open accommodating hours, often making it easy to exercise before work, after work, or even during a lunch break of yours.

Despite the fact that exercise is often associated with exercise equipment, like a treadmill, that is not all that exercise is about. Exercise can also involve something simple like going for a walk or taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work.  If you would prefer to exercise, for free, in your spare time, you may want to consider finding an exercise buddy.  This is a person who can workout with you, even if it just involves walking around your local shopping mall.  Not only can you make a new friend or strengthen your relationship with one of your current friends, having an exercise buddy or an exercise partners often means that you are more likely to stick with your weight loss plan and achieve your weight loss goals.

As outlined above, it is extremely important that you incorporate exercise into your weight loss plan, especially if you are serious about losing weight and wish to do so in a healthy matter.  With multiple ways to go about incorporating exercise into your weight loss plan, there really isn’t any excuse for not doing so.

Don’t Believe Every Word

Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 18:59 | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Don’t Believe Every Word

Being a Hypnotist and steeped in all things hypnotic, I am often asked my opinion on Neuro Linguistic Programming, (NLP)

I believe NLP is an updated, complicated version of Hypnosis, Hypnosis repackaged and remarketed and of course proficient use of language, that’s all.

After all, for years we’ve had anchors and triggers in standard hypnosis.

One of the reasons I have never embraced NLP,  is this flat out statement of theirs, that our minds cannot process a negative.

RUBBISH!!!

From birth perhaps the first words you learned was, “No, and Don’t”

And those words were called out more than any other by our concerned parents.

“Don’t touch the hot stove”

“Don’t touch the dog”

“Don’t eat this, don’t eat that”

“No Don’t”

You get the picture, don’t you? Oops there goes the negative again and you Did get the picture.

NLP says that if you say “Don’t spill the coffee” then that person doesn’t process the “don’t” but only processes the “Spill the coffee” part.

So the person imagines spilling the coffee and as a result there is a far greater chance of actually spilling the coffee.

If you were to ask someone who has never smoked, “Do you smoke?” how could they answer you without using a negative.

To say “I don’t smoke” is implying “I smoke” and we all know that’s nonsense!

To say “I’m a non smoker” well there’s a negative in that statement too.

Ask any adult if they still wear nappies, they are hardly going to say, “I’m a non nappy wearer” well they might if they’ve done someone’s NLP course!

Who are NLP to make this profound statement about our minds, our brains, of which None of us know anything, none of us know how the brain works, not even the real expert, the neurologist!

Maybe on a fleeting thinking level we might skip the “don’t” for a second and their classic example is “Don’t think of a red Rabbit” and Yes for a fleeting moment you do think of a red rabbit, if there is such a thing? And that’s only because you have to make sense of what they are asking you to do or in this case not to do.

Right now all across the USA, thousands of people are standing still at the sidewalk, (pavement) all because a sign in red reads “Don’t Walk”

How come their minds don’t ignore the “don’t” and walk?? Interesting isn’t it?

So with that in mind, don’t buy all my cd’s, don’t enroll on all my courses, don’t book me, don’t believe every word.

Your mind sees well the “Don’t” and you either will or won’t accordingly.

I sincerely hope you’ve caught on to this one.

Something Funny for You

Police are hailing the man who survived a mustard gas and pepper spray attack as a seasoned veteran.

I’m always with you

Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 16:34 | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Have you ever heard the sound of a familiar voice and turned around to see a smiling stranger?.

Yet you knew deep in your heart he was for you, he asked you the time and even though you were not wearing a watch, you looked, cause you found yourself riveted to the spot and you began to wonder just what if?.

You almost lost your breath as he held out his hand and you felt a warmth you’d never known before.

And this feeling travelled to that special place where your dreams take place and you just felt, Oh So Good.

You noticed he wore a strange ring and it sparkled in the warm sunlight as did his right eye.

Then you noticed he was wearing two wristwatches and it made you wonder why he asked the time.

And through all this something seemed so familiar, you felt at home and as he turned to walk away, you followed, with each beat of your heart and everything just seemed so right.

Suddenly Flashes of all the happy events in your childhood, happy events of all times in your life appeared before you in vivid detail, you felt you might be dreaming but you knew you were not and yet you began to wonder how all this could be and what had caused such good feelings to befall you.

As you gaze tonight at the dark sky, you will see me smile at you and you will feel good.

I will twinkle just for you my friend.

Just know I am there in your dreams tonight.

I am always with you.

The Power of Believing

Friday, May 28, 2010 at 14:39 | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

It’s time to believe!
Believe in what, I hear some of you say.
Well there are lots of things you can believe in, your Religion, your Country, Government and of course last but by no means least yourself!
With a foundation like that, you simply can’t go wrong.
Why believe in yourself?
Let me tell you why.
Whatever you believe in becomes your reality, you can believe in fairies and they are real to him who believes.
The next time you are with someone who believes in fairies, you ought not to laugh, rather just realize that you haven’t got to their level of belief, yet!
When I say that whatever you believe in becomes your reality, I am meaning of course your behavior.
When you believe in something it means that through conscious thought and repetition, that belief has passed from consciousness into the realm of the subconscious.
And it will become real for you, as real as real can get.
Let me tell you how many years ago when first arriving in South Africa I used the power of believing.
I was told by many that hypnosis for entertainment wouldn’t work, I don’t speak Afrikaans etc.
Meanwhile the late great Max Collie had done very well for the previous 30 years.
I ignored the lot of them and set about with a determination and an absolute belief in myself.
Since that time I have gone on to achieve many hypnotic firsts within the Industry.
One of the most important lessons you will ever learn in your life is this: Nobody will believe in you unless you first believe in yourself!
If you doubt your own ability how will you ever be able to convince someone else of your worth?
The more convincing you are the easier it is to convince others.
The entertainment world, perhaps more than any other, is an environment where you have to sell yourself by having absolute belief in yourself and no where more so than the Hypnotic world.
A healthy self belief in oneself, act, product, company is the greatest asset you can possess, so start using it today and let it be a passport to future success and happiness, taking you wherever you want to go.
