What is NLP?

I recently wrote about the fact that I don’t (Oops) like the way NLP says we can’t process a negative.
Well, whether some of us can or can’t here is some more useful info on NLP.
Neuro is about your neurological system. NLP is based on the idea that we experience the world through our senses and translate sensory information into thought processes, both conscious and unconscious. Thought processes activate the neurological system, which affects physiology, emotions and behaviour.
Linguistic refers to the way human beings use language to make sense of the world, capture and conceptualise experience, and communicate that experience to others. In NLP, linguistics is the study of how the words you speak influence your experience.
Programming addresses how we code or mentally represent experience. Your personal programming consists of your internal processes and strategies (thinking patterns) that you use to make decisions, solve problems, learn, evaluate and get results. NLP shows people how to recode their experiences and organise their internal programming and states so they can be in control of their minds by means of changing their perceptions. When we change our internal maps of reality, we change our external experience of reality too.
Some definitions
NLP is often described in various ways. The formal definition is that it is ‘the study of the structure of our subjective experience.’
Here are a few more ways of answering the question:
‘What is NLP?’
• The art and science of communication
• A complicated version of Hypnosis
• Gestalt theory?
• How to get better in all areas of your life
• Influencing and persuading others
• An owners manual for the brain
NLP began in the early 1970′s when Richard Bandler, PhD and Dr John Grinder, PhD, studied people, they considered, to be excellent communicators and change experts.
The literature on NLP is prolific, today you can find NLP applications amongst coaches, therapists, doctors, nurses, sales people, managers, teachers, parents and teenagers alike.
NLP says the difference between successful and unsuccessful people is not how many resources they have, but in the way they think, the way they talk and the way they behave. The way you think, your thoughts, is what you create inside. The way you talk and act is what you express outside.
If you want to be successful, you must start to think and align your thoughts, speech and actions and apply the following basic principles:
1. KNOW YOUR OUTCOME
What is your Goal, the end result? Focus on what you want, however during the process you must detach from the end result.
2. TAKE ACTION
This is the Key to all success, TAKE ACTION, However small, TAKE ACTION!!! Every little step leads you along the way.
3. HAVE SENSORY AWARENESS
Become mindful of the senses, Ask Not, “What do I see” but rather, “What do I observe”. Not, “What do I hear” but, “What am I listening to”.
Use all your senses, remember you do have FIVE, and begin to notice the signs which tell you, you are on course or off!!
4. BEHAVIOURAL FLEXIBILITY
Adopt new approaches all the time until you reach your goal.
By studying Self Hypnosis or NLP you will be able to:
Enjoy greater control, freedom over your state of mind, responses, and interactions with others.
You’ll find it much easier to clarify your dreams, enabling you to identify blockages that may be holding you back.
Change unwanted, detrimental habits, like smoking, drinking alcohol excessively, overeating etc.
Enhance rapport and communication with others, allowing you greater understanding of what makes the other person tick, because if you know that, then, you’re on your way.
Recognize instantly when others are using Hypnosis, NLP to influence you, and be able to counteract if necessary.
You’ll find it so easy to achieve all of your goals, because you’ll have greater confidence and belief in yourself and access to your internal states.
Please remember I am a Fan of NLP, I just don’t (Oops again) accept everything they say. I apply my own thinking and this is what some of you should do too. Thinking makes everything so, (an article coming soon on thinking)
As always my Friends, do everything to the best of your natural ability, with good cheer and a Glad Heart.
With Warmest Regards,
I Remain,
Yours Cordially and Sincerely,
The Marvellous Max Kaan.
